Lauki / bottle gourd is a full of dietary fiber, vegetable. Adding bottle gourd to our diet is really good for our digestive system. Lauki Chana Dal Gravy Recipe is a quick and easy recipe and can be consumed with rice or roti.
I like to cook dals in pressure cooker for less cooking gas consumption and it also saves my time. So I will suggest you to cook this Lauki Chana Dal Sabzi in the pressure cooker only. I generally keep this lauki gravy simple with few spices for more stomach friendly texture.
Ingredients for making Lauki Chana Dal Gravy Recipe
Bottle gourd (Lauki) – 250 grams
Split chickpeas (chana dal) – ½ cup
Onion – 1 medium size
Tomato – 2 medium size
Garlic – 1 tea spoon mince
Ginger power- ½ tea spoon
Salt- according to taste
Coriander powder – 1 table spoon
Turmeric powder – ½ tea spoon
Red chilli powder – ½ tea spoon
Cumin seed -1 tea spoon
Mustard seed – 1 tea spoon
Asafetida (Hing) – 2 pinches
Oil- 3 Table spoon
Basic preparation for making Lauki Chana Dal Gravy Recipe
- Wash and Soak Chana dal in clean water for 20 minutes.
- Wash bottle gourd and peel the upper layer. Now cut it into medium size pieces shown in pictures.
- Finely chop onion and roughly cut tomatoes.
Above mention ingredients are sufficient for 3 – 4 servings. The total cooking time is 25 minutes.
Method for making Lauki Chana Dal Gravy Recipe
Step 1: Heat oil in pressure cooker and add asafetida, cumin seed and mustard seed. When cumin seeds start cracking, add minced garlic and fry until light brown.
Step 2: Now add chopped onion and sauté until turn translucent. Add spices and sauté for one minute.
Step 3: Add tomatoes, ginger powder and cook until tomatoes become soft.
Step 4: Now add bottle gourd and soaked Chana dal along with 1 ½ cup water.
Step 5: Now cover the pressure lid and cook on medium gas flame for 5 minutes and then turn it to simmer and cook for next 5 minutes. Turn the gas off and let the pressure releases automatically from pressure cooker.
Bring it out in a serving bowl and garnish with coriander leaves or mint leaves. Serve Lauki Chana Dal Gravy hot with paratha or roti.
Few useful tips for making Lauki Chana Dal Gravy Recipe
- I prefer soaking Split chickpeas/ Chana dal before cooking, it saves cooking time. You can cook directly too, but in that case, cut lauki in big pieces.
- I had ginger powder so I used that, you can use ginger paste or freshly crushed ginger too.
- Add extra water for more gravy.
