South Indian dishes are one of my personal favorite breakfast food items. South Indian cuisines are not only healthy, but also very easy to make. The good thing is, one can do lots of experiments and variations in it. Idli is one of the famous South Indian staple foods which is now cooked across nationwide due to its authentic taste and ease of making.
Idli is traditionally a combination of rice and lentil which is soaked in water and then a smooth batter is made out of this combination. Later this idli batter is placed on idli molds and these batter filled molds are cooked in steam. The whole process generally takes time as fermentation of batter is required for perfect idli.
Today I am going to share a simple and quick suji idli recipe with you. It will take less than 15 minutes of your time. Instant Kaju Rawa Idli is a perfect option for breakfast or any tea time. Full of South Indian flavors Kaju Rawa Idli is a must try recipe. Rawa idli can go with any dal or sambhar or chutney. You can even enjoy it with a cup of hot ginger tea too.
Ingredients for making Instant Kaju Rawa Idli Recipe
Rawa (Semolina) – 1 cup
Curd – ¼ cup
Cashew nut (Kaju) – 10
Curry leaves – 5
Chana dal – 1 table spoon
Salt – according to taste
Dried red chilli – 2
Cumin seed – ½ tea spoon
Mustard seed – ½ tea spoon
Urad dal duli – ½ tea spoon
Green chili – 1 (chopped)
Coriander leaves – 1 tea spoon chopped (optional)
Oil – 1 table spoon
Water – 1 cup
Basic preparation for making Instant Kaju Rawa Idli
- Collect all the ingredients in your working area.
Method for making Instant Kaju Rawa Idli Recipe
Step 1: Heat oil in a frying pan. Add cumin seed, mustard seed, curry leaves, dried red chili, chana dal, urad dal.
Sauté for ½ minute, add cashew nut and sauté one more minute.
Step 2: Now add semolina (rawa) and mix well, sauté for two minute and then turn the gas off.
Step 3: In a mixing bowl take curd, chopped chili, coriander and salt. Beat well all the ingredients.
Step 4: Now add roasted rawa mixture to curd and add water, beat well. Keep aside for 10 minutes resting.
Step 5: Grease microwave safe idli molds with some oil. Now pour batter with the help of a spoon. Fill ½ cup water in the base pan and then place idli molds in it and cover it with lid. Now cook it for 5 minutes in microwave mode.
Step 6: Now carefully bring the complete vessel out from the microwave. Bring out idli molds; be careful as it will be quite hot. Now release idlis from molds by slightly rounding a knife around the corners of idli.
Super soft, moist hot idli is ready to serve. Enjoy it with any chutney or even a cup of hot tea.
Few useful tips for making Instant Kaju Rawa Idli
- Do not over roast the ingredients as it ruins the taste of idli.
- If you are using microwave for making idli, always use a lid vessel. Otherwise, idli will become hard from outside.
- Fill very little water in the microwave safe vessel, it should not reach to the level of the batter.
- You can even add a little of sambhar masala or more flavors.
