A few months back my neighbor, Pal Aunty brought me a bowl of pudding and asked me to taste. The taste of the pudding was a little confusing, since it was giving a very plush and milky flavor in the mouth. I was so amazed with the taste. I asked her for the recipe and the very next day I tried this halwa recipe. It turns out so good. Thanks to her that she shared her secret bread halwa recipe with me and today I am sharing the same with you.

The complete process will take approx 20 minutes of time and the below ingredients are enough to make halwa for 5 people.
Ingredients of Bread Halwa recipe
Bread (Brown / White) – 8 slice
Milk – 2 Cup
Sugar – ½ Cup
Ghee – ¼ Cup + 1 table spoon more
Cashew nut (Kaju) – 10
Almond (Badam) – 10
Raisins ( Kismis) – 10
Basic preparation of Bread Halwa recipe
- Cut bread slices into small pieces. You can use a knife or use hands.
- Collect the entire ingredient at a place.
Method of making Bread Halwa recipe
Step 1: Heat ghee in a heavy base or non stick pan. Now add the bread pieces and sauté for 10 minutes on simmer gas flame.
Step 2: Add milk and stir well. Now try to mash the bread pieces with the help of spoon and let it cook on simmer gas only.
Step 3: Keep stirring occasionally and add the sugar when the mixture getting thicker. Cook until mixture starts leaving pan and start collecting together.
Step 4: Add one table spoon of ghee and this will fasten the halwa to finish the pan leaving process. This will also give a smoother texture to Halwa. Cook for five more minutes and turn the gas off.
Bread Halwa is ready, bring it out in me airtight container or microwave safe bowl and garnish with chopped dry fruits. Serve it hot and enjoy the richness of milk and sweet.
Heat halwa one minute in microwave before you serve it later.
Few useful tips for Bread Halwa Recipe
- I have used white bread for this recipe. You can use brown bread too. Brown bread halwa will be slightly brown in color compared to white bread halwa.
- I have used full cream milk in this halwa recipe.
