How to make Veg Momos without using onion garlic
Vegetable Momos – step by step presentation of Vegetable Momos recipe. Momos are basically a famous Tibetian recipe. Vegetable Momos are popular in India too. You can easily find street food corners serving delicious Veg Momos across North and East parts of the India.
There are two basic versions of Momos; Vegetable Momos and non vegetarian Momos. Today, I am presenting you Veg Momos. The best thing of Vegetable Momos is that you can do a lot of variation with the stuffing.
I am presenting simple and easiest method of making oil free super tempting Veg Momos Recipe. I am using Cabbage and Carrot for filling Momos. Making momos required bit extra time than usual recipes. Preparation of Momos must take at least one hour.
Let’s start preparing for a perfect Vegetable Momos recipe.
Ingredients of Vegetable Momos Recipe
Refined flour – 1 cup
Oil – 2 Tea Spoon
Water – as required
Salt – 1 Tea Spoons
For Momos stuffing
Cabbage – ½ of medium size
Carrot – 2
Garlic – 1 small piece
Oil – 1 Table Spoon
Salt – according to taste
Sugar – ¼ Tea Spoon
Black pepper – ¼ tea spoon crushed
Vinegar – 3 drops
Prep Time: 40 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 50 minutes
Yield: 15-18 pieces
Basic preparation of Vegetable Momos Recipe
- Finely grate all the vegetables and garlic.
- In a mixing bowl take refined flour, add salt and mix well.
- Add oil in the flour and rub little bit using fingers. Now add water and knead soft dough.
Method of making Vegetable Momos Recipe
Step 1: Heat one table spoon oil in a pan. Add finely grated garlic and sauté for ½ minute and then add rest of vegetables. Sauté until vegetables gets a little dry.
Step 2: Now add salt, sugar, black pepper and vinegar. Stir well and turn the gas off. Let this vegetable mixture cool completely.
Step 3: Now take the dough and make lemon size balls from it. Now roll this dough ball with the help of rolling pin and roll a circle of approx 3 inch thin diameter. This circle must be little thick from outer parts and thin from the center.
Step 4: Put a spoon full of stuffing in the center of the circle ball and pick the one edge of this circle. Now start pleating from the picked side towards the end (same way like a ribbon or sari) and seal the pleats in the center.
Step 5: Make all the Momos same way and cover the done momos with a moist cotton cloth.
Step 6: Heat water in a steamer and wait until a boil come. Now grease momos mold or plate / stand and place prepared momos one by one without touching each other.
Step 7: Now steam momos for 5 – 6 minutes on high flame. Check after that if momos feel sticky that means little more cooking is required. Once momos done, it will be bit transparent and smooth from outside.
Vegetable Momos are ready. Serve Vegetable Momos hot with homemade red chilli sauce, or any flavorful spicy sauce. Veg Momos are simple from inside so a spicy sauce goes well with moms.
Few useful tips for Vegetable Momos recipe
- You can add spring onion while preparing for Vegetable Momos stuffing.
- If you feel difficulty while doing pleating make a small gujiya like shape. Roll the circle same way and then fill the stuffing on one side of the circle and turn the other side on it. Now seal the edges by pressing.
- You can even steam Veg Momos in idli maker.
- Do not over steam the Momos otherwise the outer dough layer will become a bit hard and dry.
