I used to cook two basic versions of Sweet Potato Paratha. One is the stuffed Paratha and the other one is by kneading all the ingredients altogether.
Sweet potato paratha is a healthy and full of nutritional value breakfast option for kids. Ingredients of Sweet Potato Paratha / Shakarkhandi Paratha recipe
Sweet Potato (Shakarkhandi) – 1 cup
Wheat flour (Gehu Ka Atta) – 2 cup
Salt – according to taste
Roasted cumin powder (Jeera Powder) – ½ Tea Spoon
Garam Masala – ½ Tea Spoon
Dry mango powder (Aamchur / khatie) – ½ tea spoon
Oil / ghee – for cooking paratha

Basic preparation of Sweet Potato Paratha / Shakarkhandi Paratha recipe
- Boil sweet potato with 1 cup of water for two whistles on medium gas flame. If you are boiling sweet potatoes in an open pan, then boil until cooked properly.
- Let it cool and then peel and mash properly using a masher or spoon.
Method of Sweet Potato Paratha / Shakarkhandi Paratha recipe
Step 1: In a mixing bowl take mashed sweet potato (shakarkhandi) and all the spices including salt. Mix well so that spices mixes evenly.
Step 2: Now add wheat flour and again mix well and make soft dough by mixing oil. No need to add water as sweet potato has its own moisture a lot.
Step 3: Make medium size (like roti) balls from this dough. Heat a flat pan.
Step 4: Now take a dough ball and sprinkle some wheat flour on it and then roll it with the help of rolling pin (Belan). Roll a thick circle like shape. This paratha should be little thicker compared to roti.
Step 5: Now transfer rolls, sheet to pan and let it cook from one side. Now, turn the upper side down so that paratha cooked evenly from both the sides. Now spread ghee / oil on both the side and cook little more or crispiness.
Bring it out of the pan and repeat the process for making the rest of Paratha.
Shakarkhandi Paratha is ready. Serve it hot with curd dip or any tempting pickle.
Few useful tips for Sweet Potato Paratha / Shakarkhandi Paratha recipe
- You can add chilli powder for spicy flavor too, but if you are cooking these Shakarkhandi Paratha
for kids avoid red chilli powder.
- You can add chopped coriander leaves for more taste.
- Do not add water while kneading dough. If it’s still feels sticky without adding water, add little more wheat flour. The dough will be a little soft and sticky due to sweet potato texture. You have to sprinkle little wheat flour while rolling the dough ball.
