Today, I am presenting Matar Paneer gravy without using onion. The best part about this mutter paneer recipe is the method and ingredients which make this recipe really simple and fuss free.
I got the idea of this onion free green pea paneer recipe from my elder sister. Most of my relatives prefer onion and garlic free food during shrads / Shraads and other time too. I am sure you too have someone like them. This Matar Paneer gravy is dedicated to them. I am sure after tasting this recipe you will hardly think of adding onion in this recipe.
Ingredients for Onion free Matar Paneer gravy
Paneer – 200 grams
Green peas – 1 cup
Tomato – 2 medium sizes
Clove (laung) – 3
Ginger – small piece grated
Cinnamon (Dalchini) – small piece
Cardamom (Badi elichi) – 1
Black pepper (Kali Mirch) – 6
Turmeric Powder – ½ Table Spoon
Chilli Powder – ½ Table Spoon
Coriander Powder – 1 Table Spoon
Salt – according to taste
Oil – 4 Table Spoon
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 25 minutes
Yield: 3-4 servings
Basic preparation for Onion free Matar Paneer gravy
- Wash tomato and cut in medium size pieces. Now make purée of these tomatoes.
- Boil green pea seeds for five minutes on simmer gas flame. Let it cool after that and strain the water.
- Collect all the raw spices in a plate.
Method for making Onion free Matar Paneer gravy
Step 1: Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds and let it turn bit brown.
Step 2: Now add tomato purée and let it cook for one minute on simmer gas flame.
Step 3: Now add all the raw spices, stir well and cook it for the next one minute.
Step 4: Now add all the powdered spices, including salt and stir well. Now, after ½ minutes, add boiled green peas. Let it cook for two minutes.
Step 5: Add one cup full crème milk and stir well. Add paneer cubes and stir well. Let it cook for the next five minutes on simmer gas flame and turn the gas off.
Easy and quick Matar Paneer gravy are ready to serve. Enjoy Paneer gravy with paratha or roti.
Few useful tips for Onion free Matar Paneer gravy
- If you want, you can add onion paste to this recipe just after adding cumin seeds.
- If you are using frozen green peas. Keep it out from the fridge one hour before cooking and wash properly with water before using it.
- If you do not have full creme milk, use regular milk.
