Sometimes it happens in our Kitchen that your refrigerator runs out of Vegetables. In this situation what will you do? Will you order something from market? Or you will try to cook something tasty and healthy?
Today, I am sharing a recipe of Sabzi, which you can cook without Vegetable. Believe me it is very popular in Rajasthan and some part of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar.
I am talking about Besan Ka Gatta.It is my favorite recipes. Besan Ka Gatta has a very unique flavor and the smooth gravy gives it a rich taste. The best part which I liked about this sabzi is Basan Ka Gatta (Gram Flour Dumplings) in gravy. Rajasthani Thali cannot be complete without Gatta Ki Sabzi.
Let’s try making Basan Ka Gatta.It is easy, tasty and pocket friendly dish. Only a few ingredients required for this.
There are two main steps, one is for making Basan Ka Gatta and Second step is making Gravy for Basan Ka Gatta. Let’s start first Basan Ka Gatta. This recipe is enough for four persons. It will take hardly 20 minutes.
Ingredients for making Basan Ka Gatta
Gram Flour (Basan) -1 cup
Cumin (Jeera) powder- 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida (Hing) – ¼ Table Spoon
Curd- 1/4 cup
Salt- 1/2 Table Spoon
Red Chili Powder- 1/2 Table Spoon
Black Pepper (Kali Mirch) -1/2 Table Spoon
Oil-1 Table Spoon
Method for making Basan Ka Gatta
Step 1: In a Bowl mix together Gram Flour, Cumin Powder, Salt, Chili powder, Asafoetida and Black Pepper Powder. Now add the curd and mix well.
Step 2: Knead a stiff dough just like for Rotis. If required add some water. Make sure to add water little by little to make perfect dough
Step 3: Now divide the dough into 7-8 balls. Roll each ball into cylindrical tubes of ½ inch in diameter and 5 inches long and Cut the rolls into 1 inch pieces.
Step 4: Boil three cups of water, add one table spoon of oil in this water. When water starts boiling, place these rolls in it. Let it cook for 10 minutes or till the rolls get up. Take out the rolls of the water. You can use this water for the gravy.
Basan Ka Gatta is ready. Now time to cook Gravy for Basan Ka Gatta.
Let’s start with Ingredients for Gravy.
Cumin seeds (Jeera) – 1/2 Table Spoon
Asafoetida (Hing) – ¼ Table Spoon
Mustard seed (Sarso Dana) – ½ Table Spoon
Red Chilli powder (Lal Mirch) – 1/2 Table Spoon
Salt -1 Table Spoon
Garam Masala-1/4 Table Spoon
Ghee or oil- 2 Table Spoon
Onions -1/2 cup puree (2 medium size Onion)
Tomato -1/2 cup puree (1 medium size Tomato)
Garlic, Ginger Paste -1 Table Spoon
Coriander powder (Dhania) -1 Table Spoon
Method for cooking Besan Ka Gatta Recipe
Step 1: Heat oil in a pan, put Cumin seeds, Mustard seeds and Asafoetida. When it begins to crackle add Onion and Ginger Garlic paste.
Step 2: Fry the Onion paste starts leaving Oil from corners. Now add the Chilli powder, Turmeric powder and Coriander powder. Stir well. Now add Tomato Puree and cook for next five minutes.
Gravy for Gatta Ki Sabzi is ready, now time to final touch.
Step 3: Add water in this Gravy. Stir well and continue cooking till a boil come. Now add the Gatte pieces. Add Garam Masala. Let it cook for 5 to 10 minutes on low flame.
Gatta Ki Sabzi is ready to serve. Garnish it with chopped Coriander leaves. Enjoy it with Roti or Paratha.
Some important tips for making Besan Ka Gatta Recipe
- Make sure your Gatta dough is not so hard.
- Curd is optional in making Gatta. You can use water also.
- If you want to give it different taste, you can add Kasuri Methi while kneading dough.
- Tomato puree is also optional. You can use Curd instead of Tomato Puree.
